Models originally created in PDS can be upgraded and converted into OpenPlant format, saving hours of design and checking while retaining the design specifications as in the original model.

Designers can rapidly and easily create 3D models using the widely employed and highly intuitive MicroStation V8i user interface, making it the most productive and easy-to-learn “industrial-strength” plant design environment ever introduced. With the assistance of MicroStation V8i features such as AccuDraw and AccuSnap, the placement of components requires a few simple clicks of the mouse.
Standard MicroStation V8i Commands: OpenPlant Modeler uses standard MicroStation V8i commands, such as Move, Copy, Rotate, and Mirror, to be both powerful and easy to use.· Many other MicroStation V8i features are available while running Bentley OpenPlant Modeler, too numerous to list here.
Some commands have been extended, so that edits and modifications to the design are done faster and more intelligently.· For example, when you delete a valve, the system automatically heals the pipe segments as if the valve was never there.
The commands have been structured to work how a designer thinks, making the job easier and flow in a natural fashion.
Auto Routing Placement Features: These features save time during design, as well as ensuring that all components placed came from the piping spec for accuracy.
ProjectWise V8i Managed Workspace:·Centrally managing the workspace configuration within ProjectWise V8i provides for a consistent quality work environment for all users on the project, reducing errors and allowing the user to work in a disconnected mode from the central server.· Work the way engineering works, where the job is.
Model Component Browser: The Model Component Browser provides designers complete insight into the project to see which components are available to check out. The dynamic check-in and check-out process, working with OpenPlant ModelServer V8i, allows the designer to add or subtract components from the working session as required. This allows the user to work on an individual line, a complete system, or the whole project.
Pipeline·Manager: The Pipeline Manager is a·utility that provides an·interface to create, modify, and manage the pipelines in the model. It includes other functions that are also available from the Piping taskbar, such as the Check Connectivity and Replace Component commands.
Create Pipeline dialog allows you to create a new pipeline and define properties for the line. From this dialog, you are also able to assign project associations to the pipeline.
The Iso Sheets tab allows you to generate isometric sheets from the pipe segments for the pipelines in the grid which can then be generated using the Bentley OpenPlant Isometrics Manager V8i application.
Clash Detection: Clash detection is an analytical tool which automates the clash detection process. The clash detection feature allows you to identify sets of business or graphical elements and to detect geometrical clashes between these object element sets. You can then interactively and graphically review these clashes, annotate or mark up particular clashes, and assign them for follow-up. Suppression rules can be applied to identify clashes that should not be reported. The settings associated with the clash runs are managed and tracked as an clash job. A job is a container of criteria, rules, and results, which are set up and saved in the active file for reuse. A job can also be stored in a DGN library.
Clash detection is managed through the Clash Detection dialog, which is used to set up the clash operations and automate the clash detection process. The Clash Detection dialog opens when you select Clash Detection option from the toolbox
Note: In order to use Clash Detection, you must first obtain a separate license using the License Management Tool.
OpenPlant Reporting: Bentley OpenPlant Reporter V8i is an·OpenPlant 3D·application that provides an interface to generate reports from either the OpenPlant Modeler V8i application or as a stand-alone application generating reports for entire projects. This tool is only available if the OpenPlant 3D Modeler V8i and ProjectWise Explorer V8i applications are currently installed.
The stand-alone mode of the OpenPlant Reporter V8i, launched from the start menu, lists the report definitions along with the Model Component browser, which is connected to a ProjectWise V8i datasource (you are prompted to log in to a datasource when you launch the application). A filtered data section is also included where you can create specific filtered sets of components to use when generating the report(s).
